How eclipses work

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, blocking sunlight. Three types: total (Moon fully covers Sun), annular (ring of Sun visible around Moon), partial (Moon partially covers Sun).

A lunar eclipse occurs when Earth passes between Sun and Moon, casting Earth's shadow on the Moon. Three types: total, partial, and penumbral (only the outer/faint shadow falls on Moon).

⚠️ Never look at a solar eclipse without proper eye protection (eclipse glasses or solar filters). Lunar eclipses are safe to view with the naked eye.
